Leafing through a notebook of minutes of early Campbell Reunions I came upon what at first glance was just a routine “letter of regret” in response to an invitation to attend the 1894 Campbell Reunion. But reading this brief letter revealed a previously unknown (at least to me) visit that Joseph (1793 – 1864) took to Pittsburgh in the 1850s to visit his brother John (1781 – 1866) and meet John’s children & grandchildren. Presumably more than 50 years had passed since they had said goodbye back in N. Ireland.
