I already spoiled any suspense by telling you that the “English Company” and the “English Settlement” failed. The settlers who came from England were experienced farmers. As you can see from the map below, the are seems to be well watered. [Note that the rightmost red line is for Little Pine Creek and their original location; The leftmost red line is for Pine Creek itself — Enoch’s final home, in what became Blackwell, PA, is by the fork just above the Tioga Co., line. And the yellow line actually had a plank road at that time, now approximated by US-15’s route.]
So what could go wrong? Many things, but key factors were hills, soil & expectations.

You keep us hanging on – you are a wonderful writer.
This is history that I can relate too. Greatly appreciated.

Judy Costley IMHO, the key part of ‘history’ is ‘story.’ I look at it as a series of stories. But teaching it that way can’t easily be measured by multiple choice tests. My few weeks long career as a substitute teacher included a couple of days of teaching history. I was able to incorporate some story telling and the kids loved the change from memorizing dry statistics.
