Maria is of interest because her daughter, Stella Ann LOOP Hooker Wilbur wrote several CCC letters and is mentioned in many. As was the case with her daughters. Eva HOOKER Hills, and Treve HOOKER Hazlett. I knew Eva and Treva well and their husbands and 2 of their 3 children. That line has now died out. Treva’s husband was a Campbell Cousin in his own right.
John H. Hazlett was a president of the Campbell Reunion Association, Supervisor of the Town of Horseheads, Chemung Co., NY, and the county office building is named after him. One of my most vivid memories of him was from a picnic in my parents’ backyard. He saw my archery set and had me shoot arrows at him — which he caught in mid-air with his bare hands!!!
I was intrigued as a hid with his son, whom my siblings knew but I never met, because he was a trapper in Alaska. I read Jack London’s books, such as “Call of the Wild” and “White Fang” and being a trapper in the wilderness sounded very glamorous.
Maria was also the link to another CCC letter writer, Dr. Ross Loop, who was the son of her widower, James W. Loop, by a 2nd wife.
